Ultrasonography is the preferred device for breast evaluation, owing to its ease of use and speed of application among radiological diagnostic methods, lack of radiation, and low cost.

In dense breast tissues, automatic breast ultrasound is used as a supplement to mammography for breast cancer screening.   

When mammography screening results are normal or benign, automatic breast ultrasound may be used as a supplement to mammography for breast cancer screening in women with dense breast tissue.
